A TWIST ON TAILGATING
Wendy's always goes all out for its fans. In 2019, when Twitter begged for the return of Spicy Nuggets, we delivered in a big way. Our goal was to promote Spicy Nuggets uniquely, leveraging our Fox College Football and IMG College partnerships. We embraced the local tradition of Sailgating at the University of Washington—like tailgating, but on the water with no marketing competition.
While other sponsors were on land, we partied on a boat with thousands of fans and athletes at Husky Harbor. Wendy's even opened a restaurant on the water for the first time! With a bright red dingy and fun swag, we served Spicy Nuggets, Frostys, and Dave's Singles. This led to sail-thru deliveries, major media appearances, and a 10% revenue increase in three months. Most importantly, we showed our fans that Wendy's is there for them, no matter where they are.
